Leighton Denny - Morning Dew

Cool green creme

Here's the second of my Harper's Bazaar covermount freebies, Morning Dew.

Morning Dew is a cool green creme that leans towards turquoise

Application was good, swatches are 2 coats with no top coat.

Ooops just realise you can see the break in my index finger nail, time to top up the superglue!

Leighton Denny - It's an Honour

Cool taupe shimmer/pearl

Free with this months issue (October - Michelle Dockery cover) of Harper's Bazaar is a choice of 6 shades of Leighton Denny polish.   Now the magazine isn't something I'd normally buy and it's a rather hefty tome with a price tag to match of £4.40.

But £4.40 for a choice from six full size Leighton Denny polishes?  That's my kind of deal.  I think this is the 4th year Harper's have done a LD covermount.

I picked up two copies earlier this week with Morning Dew, a cool green creme and It's an Honour, featured today.

It's an Honour is a taupe (my fave) but it's unusual shade of taupe, being very cool and quite light, almost like it's been mixed with silver.  And the finish is somewhere between shimmer and pearl to me.

Application was good, I do like the narrow LD brushes and swatches shown are 2 thick coats, if you stick to thin you'll need 3.

I really like this colour, very work appropriate but still interesting.

UK readers, have you availed of the freebie polish?!

Leighton Denny - Honey Trap

Milky mushroom creme

Ah, you know I love a taupe - or mushroom in this case.  I think mushroom is more pinky and taupe is more purple leaning - agree?

Anyhow, I spotted this and liked the look of it so then it was a case of stalking it on ebay till one popped up for a reasonable price.

To me Honey Trap is a pale, creamy mushroom/taupe creme.  Leighton's site describes it as a warm clay,  I'm not sure I would've got to this colour from that description.  They also have a bottle shot that doesn't look much like the colour either!

Application was good, LD's almost always are and as you can see it's lovely and shiny without top coat.

Swatches shown are 2 coats.

Leighton Denny - Caught Red Handed

Glowy red shimmer

The fact that I've eaten toast, cereal and a burrito on the train for evening meals means it's been one of those weeks!  Ah, well at least it's Friday now!

Caught Red Handed is a glowy red shimmer that has a hint of sparkle in full sunlight (3rd pic)

Swatch is 2 coats with no top coat and application was great.

Gorgeous, looks almost like the metallic finish of red tinsel!

Here's how it's described on Leighton's site..

A bright iridescent red that gives a 'naughty but nice' impression. Caught Red Handed creates nails with more than their share of Va-Va-Voom! Superb depth of colour, a metallic 3-D shimmer and an incredible high gloss shine

Leighton Denny - Honey Pot

Suede finish copper shimmer

Honey Pot is a suede finish copper shimmer

The suede finish was a bit of a surprise and the polish/finish combination is pretty different than the colour appears in the bottle.

Looking at it close up, it's speckled finish of mainly copper and some silver and, of course, dries with a suede finish - not quite matte but a long way from shiny.

Honey Pot was part of the Per Suede Me collection that might've been a QVC exclusive.

Swatch shown is 2 coats, no top coat in the first pics, one coat of topcoat added for the final picture to see how it looks shiny!

Leighton Denny - Rampant Rose

Deep dusky pink creme

Rampant Rose is a deep creamy, pink shade with a hint of dusky brick tones...

Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat but look how super shiny it is.

Fantastic application, brush, formula on this one.

Leighton Denny - Daylight Robbery

Blue with secret shimmer

Daylight Robbery is a gorgeous slightly greyed blue creme with masses of paler blue secret shimmer

Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat.

Formula, as with most Leighton's was super.

Sorry for the lapse in blogging, rest of life and work took the front seat for a while but I should be back on it now!

Leighton Denny - Upgrade Me

Creamy yellow sheer with pale gold flakes

After yesterday's Leighton Denny win I think I can safely say this one is not a win, on me at least.

Upgrade Me is a sheer pale yellow with loads of pale gold flaky shimmer.  The bottle close up looks so delicate and pretty, it's just didn't translate well on the nail for me

Upgrade Me is part of the Jet Setter collection, which I have as minis, which was 4 flight themed shades.

The collection blurb describes it as a 'cool cream shimmer' - I suppose you could call it cream but to me it's pale yellow.  Which is of course partly why it looks pretty awful with my skintone.

It's also very sheer.... I've lost my notes for this swatch but I think this was at least 3 coats.

I've also seen this layered, which over the right colour, might be a better use of it's prettiness.

Leighton Denny - Coconutty

Taupe with gold flaky shimmer

Close up of the flaky shimmer...

Boy, I love this...

Leighton Denny Coconutty is a cool taupe with fine gold flaky shimmer, you'd think it might not work, taupe is primarily a cool toned colour so to mix gold in could jar, but it doesn't - it's fabulous.

I've seen other swatches where the base colour looks much warmer and chocolately, but on me it definitely leans cool taupe...

And such a cool name too, makes you think of a delicious dessert...

Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat, application & formula were great too.

Leighton Denny - Grey Radiance

Warm grey shimmer

Sunlight - looks much warmer

Shimmer close-up

Grey Radiance is a warm toned grey shimmer (or is it a pearl?) with silvery grey shimmer

Swatch shown is 2 coats, no top coat.

Application was good but it is slightly tricky with the brushstrokes, hence my pearly thoughts...

I like this, I'm a big fan of grey anyhow but the warmth of this polish moves it out of the ordinary

Leighton Denny - Inside Scoop

Pale green creme

Super summery, Inside Scoop isfrom 20ll's Gelato collection.

Inside Scoop is a pale apple green pastel creme. Leighton describes it as cool mint green which is probably true too, it's one of those colours that looks cooler/warmer depending on the light.

Swatch shown is 2 coats with no top coat.  Application was good for a pastel creme and Leighton Denny's always seem to dry with a good shine.

Leighton Denny - Big Bang

Black/silver glitter bomb

Apologies for the lack of posts, I've been away on holiday in Tenerife with the family for a week and then totally caught up with wedding preparations.  I'm not sure I've mentioned before but I'm getting married in 20 days time(!), the todo list is finally getting shorter but there's still lots to do.

The Leighton Denny site says Big Bang is black & silver but the base colour to me looks like a sheer dark blue and I think there's some fine turquoise glitter in there too....

And in the sunlight the bottle and the polish definitely has a purple tinge to it.

But it's pretty, if rather messy.  Any polish on my fingers was super tricky to clean up as you can see from my rather messy swatch pictures.

Swatch is 2 coats.

The polish dries kinda matt so I added topcoat to make it sing.

Also, unlike other Leighton Dennys this one has a very strong chemical smell, a consequence of the glitter I presume.

And I love the name, this totally looks like the ultimate cosmic explosion.
